Celia Walden
Cambridge graduate Celia Walden is a journalist, novelist and arts/entertainment critic.
Celia is based in London and best known for her Daily Telegraph column, features and interviews, as well as her monthly ‘Lunch Date’ slot in Glamour magazine and her racy reports as the GQ motoring correspondent. She is as versatile and confident in print as she is in front of the camera.
On screen, Celia is an interviewer for the French Sky film channel, Cinemoi, for whom she also conducts talks with French actors and actresses, directors and producers at the French Institute in London in front of a live audience. She has appeared on Newsnight, The Andrew Neil Show, Richard & Judy, BBC Breakfast and is a regular on Sky News, the Adam Bolton Show and GMTV.
Born in Paris in December 1975, Celia - who is fluent in French, Italian and Russian - is the daughter of former Tory Minister George Walden, an acclaimed writer and literary criticm who is the Chairman of the Russian Booker Prize.
Celia was educated at Westminster School and Newnham College, Cambridge, where she studied French, Italian Literature and Film. She began her career in book publishing at Yale University Press and has remained a keen literary commentator who regularly frequents literary festivals such as Hay-on-Wye and Cheltenham, where she has spoken in the past.
Her mother is the renowned picture restorer, Sarah Walden and from her, Celia has inherited a passion for art history – especially French, Italian, Spanish and Russian painting. Fashion and music, specifically jazz and opera, are also a part of her repertoire.
As well as her regular writing slots in the Daily Telegraph, Glamour and GQ, Celia is also a regular contributor to Elle, Harper’s Bazaar, Easy Living, The Spectator, Standpoint Magazine, Russian Vogue and the French magazine, Point de Vue, for whom she is frequently asked to commentate on social and cultural issues.
She is the author of two novels: “Harm’s Way”, published by Bloomsbury in September 2008 (and translated into three languages), and “Babysitting George”, a biography of George Best based on time she spent with him as a journalist, to be published in March 2011.
